Please note, these are graphic pictures of a surgical procedure. They may not be suitable for all viewers.
The following pictures were taken during Angel's C-Section on August 22, 2007. Thank you to Dr. Allen Borden and the Galleria Animal Clinic for allowing us to take pictures for use on this educational page.

Dr. Borden inserts an IV catheter.

Dr. B shaves the abdomen.

The abdomen is scrubbed.

Angel is draped, and a small area is cut in the drape.

The uterus is exposed.

Another pup arrives.

The pups are rubbed briskly to stimulate them.

The pups are cleaned up and ready to meet mom.

Dr. B administers anesthesia. When Angel is asleep, she will be intubated for the surgery.
Jana gives the nails a short clip while Dr. B shaves the abdomen.

Monitors are in place to check vital signs during surgery.

The abdomen is opened.

The first pup is handed off to the vet tech.

The vet techs and I suction fluid from the pups' throats and nasal passages.

Meanwhile, Dr. Borden carefully cleans and inspects the uterus.

The incision is closed.
